You want to sell your home but are you getting too emotional or making these other mistakes? It’s easy to be emotional about your home. Whether you have lived there for a year or a lifetime it’s still your home and people tend to be attached to a place they spend most of their life. But when it comes to selling, there needs to be a paradigm shift in thinking.
Sellers need to step back and examine their position. They are no longer decorating the home for themselves but for others. Sellers cannot look at a home as their own any longer but a business product waiting to be bought and sold. It may be a difficult transition especially if there is a situation where the seller does not want to sell such as a short sale or foreclosure. But the seller must look at the overall goal. The goal is to sell the house and either move on, liquidate or cash in their equity. Getting too emotionally involved will kill a deal faster than anything.
Sellers need to put themselves in the buyers shoes. This may be difficult to do since they have been in and looked at their house for as long as they have owned it. Counter-offering somewhere in the middle in a respectful and business like fashion will determine whether the negotiations will go on further or if the buyer will concede and accept the offer.
